Who are you, and what are your ties to St. Bernard?
“Simply put, I am a passionate advocate for my neighbors who just wants to ensure they are seen and heard by our Village’s leadership. After graduating from Miami University, I chose to make St. Bernard my home and bought my house on Greenlee. This community has shown me so much kindness and our neighbors deserve a leader who listens, learns, and takes action.”
What is your favorite place in St. Bernard?
“Scherpie’s is my go-to lunch spot and I don’t know what I’d do without it! I work from home, so I spend all day in the Village as a regular patron of many of our small businesses. That’s why I’m so passionate about developing a Small Business Association so they can receive the support they deserve.”
Why are you running?
“I was encouraged by local leaders to run for Council after hearing that my awesome neighbors all around the Village felt unseen and unheard by our leaders. I’ve since discovered that this disconnect comes from a lack of community outreach, committee activity, and expert insight. This is why I’ve developed an expert-backed platform to act as a bridge for this disconnect/gap.”
What do you consider to be your most impactful contribution to the community so far?
“A clear demonstration of my prioritization of our community’s voice was my leadership of the community input section of the Charter Amendments research. Earlier this year, I surveyed over 150 residents to ensure their perspective was included in how Council bundled the Charter Amendment votes. I continue to listen and learn from our neighbors while knocking on now over 500 doors and sending hundreds of hand-written letters. I’m a hard-worker and I will continue to work hard for our Village.”
What are three goals you hope to achieve if elected?
“I’ve divided my platform into three sections:
- MORE committee reporting to establish a precedent of constant improvement.
- MORE collaborative legislation to ensure our laws and ordinances leverage expert insight.
- MORE community feedback opportunities to enable our neighbors to share their perspectives and voices. That includes a convenient feedback form, year-round surveying, and regular, well-advertised town halls.”
What is the most important issue facing St. Bernard in the coming years, and how do you plan to address it?
“Losing our City status due to the declining population for the past few decades is a threat to our local economy, tax base, and existence as a municipality. To attract new residents and revitalize our community, I will uplift our small businesses, connect our Village to county and national funding, and ensure all neighbors feel welcomed and celebrated in our Village by passing inclusive legislation.”
Is there anything else people should know about you?
“I’m super proud that my initiatives have earned some impressive support from organizations like the AFL-CIO Labor Board, Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund, and the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund and our elected leaders like US Congressman Greg Landsman and US Senator Sherrod Brown. If you want to learn more about how I plan to play a role in the future of our Village, please follow my campaign pages, @VoteMoreton, and check out my website (https://votemoreton.start.page).”
