Candidate Spotlight: Former Mayor John Estep

John Estep, a lifelong resident and former Mayor of St. Bernard, is running for council to improve local ordinance enforcement, community communication, and property development.

This article is part of our Candidate Spotlight series. Candidates were provided with the same questions and invited to submit written responses, which are reproduced word-for-word here. SBLN and the author do not support any particular candidate or viewpoint.

Who are you, and what are your ties to St. Bernard? Why are you running? What are three goals you hope to achieve if elected? What is the most important issue facing St. Bernard in the coming years, and how do you plan to address it?

“I’m a lifelong resident of St. Bernard who cares about our community. I’ve been on council and served as Mayor of St. Bernard for eight years. I’m running because our community is going in the wrong direction. We need to enforce the r the ordinances such as when to put the trash out for pickup and cars should not be on the sidewalks. The grass ordinance is not enforced. We need appointed and elected officials walking our streets to have the pulse of our neighborhoods in the palm of their hand. We need to be more customer friendly and communicate with our citizens. I want St. Bernard to be compared to Hyde Park and other nice communities. Short term: get some tenants in the shopping center and develop Vine and Washington . Long term: get rid of Shut Fine and the Dollar Store!”

The election will be on November 7, 2023. Early voting is underway at the Hamilton County Board of Elections. You can find more information on early voting here and more information about other candidates and races on the ballot here.
